In the application described below, silicone seals are processed through vulcanization in an annealing furnace. This results in silicone vapors, which have to be separated out. The LTA team was presented with a new task: filtering out the contaminants and, at the same time, recycling the heat contained in the airstream. The temperature in the furnace is 210°C. The processing time for one charge is around 4 hours. In this case, we came up with the following solution: a heat exchanger is installed between the annealing oven and the air filter. This heat exchanger cools the extracted air down to 40°C and returns the air heated up in the countercurrent to the annealing furnaces at 185°C. This way, approx. 80 % of the heat is returned to the annealing furnace. Due to the pressure loss in the heat exchanger, a special blower is additionally integrated before the LTA air filter which eliminates pressure loss. The extracted air is purified using an LTA air filter, model AC 3022, with electrostatic filtration and can then be released into the hall or into the outside air.
