Clean air is our world Chip and aerosol separation during MOM & dry processing

The project involved combined processing of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) using dry processing (chip formation.) The same Hass VF-6/40 TR machine is used in alternation for minimum oil machining (MMS) of aluminum, which results in sticky dust. Capturing the chips was no easy task, either.

Extracting them efficiently required a special chip capturing channel, designed and manufactured by LTA. The purified exhaust from the filter is used to blow the chips to the capture side. There, the chips are sucked up and separated out through various filters, as described below.

Two cyclone precipitators are installed to pre-filter the coarse dust. Next, the remaining chips and dust are separated using an LTA cartridge filter, model DF 900 Jet. During MOM of aluminum, a filter aid is also added via a precoating unit in order to prevent the filter cartridges from gumming up.

The filtration plant and the suction channel were fully installed and ready to use in no time at all.

Thanks to this set-up, instead of the air having to be extracted and filtered through two different filter systems, a single extraction system is used for two completely different applications with excellent results.
