Low-maintenance filtration of extruder vapors with emollients

In a plastic processing operation, plastic vapors are extracted from an extruder. The extruder has a total of 4 suction points that are combined through the pipe system.
The vapors also contain an emollient which cannot be allowed to mix with water. According to the spec sheet, this substance crystallizes at temperatures under 22°C. So during the process, it must be ensured that temperatures do not fall below this limit. Until now, air was purified using a solid filter and nonwoven web that was clogged after 8 hours. This wasn’t enough to reach the required level of purity.

As a solution, a stable temperature above 22°C was maintained, depending on the process. Then a stainless steel version model AC 3021-V-A LTA air filter was installed, from which the air is channeled out through a vent stack. The effective flow rate measured is approx. 1400 m³/h.
