To make it onto the prestigious list of world market leaders, companies must meet a series of strict criteria; among other things, a world market leader must rank first or second worldwide in terms of revenue in at least one relevant market segment. The basis for this is a database currently containing around 1,300 entries of potential world market leaders from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The list is compiled annually by Prof. Dr. Christoph Müller, Associate Professor at the University of St. Gallen. The cooperation partner is the Academy of German World Market Leaders, founded by former Baden-Württemberg Minister of Economic Affairs Walter Döring. The ranking was published on November 5, 2025, in the magazine WirtschaftsWoche.
